On Monday, August 21, 2017, a total eclipse of the Sun will be visible in the continental United States for the first time in almost 40 years.  A total eclipse is when the Sun is completely hidden by the Moon, the sky becomes dark, and the Sun’s faint atmosphere (its corona) becomes visible – like a beautiful halo.  This total eclipse will ONLY be visible on a narrow track stretching from Oregon to South Carolina across the U.S. Because no other country will get to see this total eclipse, it’s being nick named “the All-American Eclipse.”  The Clearwater Public Library will host the Cosmosphere on August 2nd at 6PM in celebration and preparation of the Eclipse.  All that attend will receive NASA approved Solar Eclipse glasses  (while supplies last) and can enter for the door prize of a Yardstick Eclipse kit or a family gift admission (up to $20.00 value) to the Lake Afton Observatory.  You can drop by the Library now to see a map of the path the eclipse will take across our country.
