The exact cosmic line-up that forms a total eclipse lasts only a short time in any given location. The total phase in 2017 will last a maximum of 2 minutes, 40 seconds in the center of the Moon’s shadow. (This is short for a typical total solar eclipse; some can last 7 minutes.) The exact time it lasts depend on your location in the shadow band, and will likely be less than the maximum. The closer you are to the central line of the eclipse shadow the longer you will have to enjoy the spectacle. Check the Eclipse map at the Clearwater Public Library to see how long it will last in Kansas. The Clearwater Public Library would like to invite you to a presentation by the Cosmosphere on August 2nd at 6PM in celebration and preparation of the Eclipse. All that attend will receive NASA approved Solar Eclipse glasses (while supplies last) and can enter for the door prize of a Yardstick Eclipse kit or a family gift admission (up to $20.00 value) to the Lake Afton Observatory.
