Did you know that studies show that Bibliotherapy (reading books) can improve communication, attitude and reduce aggression for children with social disabilities? Clearwater Public Library has Story Time every Thursday morning at 10:30AM throughout the school year. Bring your child for a little Bibliotherapy. The Library also has a Big Chiefs/Little Indian program that pairs Adults over 55 (Big Chiefs) and children (Little Indians) for one- on – one time, one hour a week, every week for some more Bibliotherapy. They can read, do homework, play games. This is a program that helps children to deal with social struggles. We have the Big Chiefs, but need more Little Indians to sign up. Contact Tina at the Library for more information.
We also have Lego Club every Tuesday after school to 4:30PM. What fun it is to watch the kids build and create Lego masterpieces. Their imagination is limitless and it helps open our minds to new possibilities.
Chasing dreams is doable. Just ask Kevin Rabas (Kansas State Poet Laurate) when he comes to the Clearwater City Chambers on October 5th at 7:00PM to discuss poetry. Poetry is just another way of expressing yourself and telling your story. Please join us for this event brought to us by the Kansas Humanities Council.
Those that are readers know that the world does not revolve around us. We are able to see things from multiple points of view. The Library has two events this month that are part of our Big Read theme this year on immigration. Coming to America Part I is on October 7th at 10:00AM at the Library where we will hear Kit Ying Wong- Robertson tell her story of coming from China to America and then on October 21st at 3:00PM we will host some Cultural Ambassadors (foreign students at WSU) to tell their story in Coming To America Part II.
Making connections, creating, expressing ourselves and look at the world in different ways or looking at different experiences, you can find all that at “Never-ending WorldS”, the Comic Con that the Library teen club (Books & Beyond) is holding on October 28th from 10:00 am to 6:00PM. We have vendors (in the Library), carnival booths, concessions and “Selfie booths” in the back parking lot, workshops and an author panel in the City Chambers. We have a dance demonstration and contests galore. Check the Books and Beyond page on our Website, www.clearwaterkslibrary.org for the forms for the contests or drop by and see Tina at the library. Admission to the Comic Con is a goodwill donation to help the B&B raise funds to create a “teen space” at the Library. Come explore worlds with us.
