Hutchinson Public Library event

‘Tis the season for family traditions, holiday get-togethers, and cherished memories. Join us at the Hutchinson Public Library Saturday, December 3 as Denise Low and Thomas Pecore Weso guide us through the family memoir writing process from 2-3:30 pm followed by readings at 4 pm from their new memoirs, The Turtle’s Beating Heart: One Family’s Story Of Lenape Survival and Good Seeds: A Menominee Indian Food Memoir. This free event will take place in the second floor auditorium of the Library.

 

Denise Low, Kansas 2007-2009 Poet Laureate, is active as a writer, educator, publisher, poet, and critic. Low is author of over 25 books including recent titles, Jackalope, trickster fiction (Red Mountain Press 2016) and The Turtle’s Beating Heart: One Family’s Story of Lenape Survival (Bison Books, January 2017). Currently, Low teaches for Baker University’s School of Professional and Graduate Studies and leads independent creative writing workshops. She taught at Haskell Indian Nations University, where she founded the creative writing program. See https://deniselow.net/ to learn more about her.

 

Writing and making visual art are part of Thomas Weso’s daily perspective. Stories he told his wife Denise Low about growing up in the Menominee Indian food culture have become a book, Good Seeds: A Menominee Indian Food Memoir. Weso is an enrolled member of the Menominee Indian Nation of Wisconsin. He has a master’s degree in Indigenous Studies from the University of Kansas and teaches at Kansas City Kansas Community College.  For more about Thomas Weso, visit http://www.tomweso.com .

 

Select titles of the authors’ books will be available for sale and autographing. Beverages and samples of a few recipes from Good Seeds will be served.
